Quick answers to basic questions about 181R/181L
What is the relationship between the lecture course (181R) and the lab course
(181L)?
While most departments require both, they are separate courses. You will receive
an independent grade for each. They are mutually reinforcing, and are best
taken simultaneously.
What is the difference between 'Honors' lab
(181M) and non-Honors (181L)?
Note that MCB181M is open to all students; enrollment in the Honors College is not required. However, for non-Honors students to enroll, they must contact Ms. Asya Roberts
asya@email.arizona.edu
MCB181M (Honors Lab) has an additional lecture section (F12 it will be Fridays @ 3:00). The lecture will provide in-depth background, explore topics related to lab, and feature small-group discussions and problem solving. Overall, the Honors Lab will place a premium on individual responsibility and a commitment to deep conceptual understanding of processes and scientific problem solving.
What is MCB184?
MCB 184 integrates lab and lecture into a single 4-unit offering (it is also available as a 5-unit Honors course). MCB184 can substitute for (MCB181L + MCB181R) for all departments and all requirements.
It is available only in the Spring semester.
I'm trying to (change/get into) a lab section, but they're all full!
In order to accommodate the several UA Freshman Orientation sessions, we open
additional lab slots at several points during the summer. Keep your eye on UAccess for
openings.
Can I change from lab section X to lab section Y?
If section Y is available by UAccess, you can do it yourself. If not, you'll need a compelling reason; there is little to no flexibility given the large number of students these courses serve. After the first meeting of a lab section, changing sections is actively discouraged because each section is taught with a different style and series of assignments; you'd be behind intellectually and possibly in terms of graded assignments as well.
What are the dates/policies/rules/textbooks/assignments for my section of
181R or 181L
The homepage for all the labs is http://blc.arizona.edu/courses/181Lab/; the syllabus is linked (check and see if they indicate they
are updated for F12!)
I'm still in dire need of the kind of assistance that only a trained professional
can provide!
