Eric Thomas

Bio: Eric grew up in England and Spain but moved to Phoenix AZ when he was in middle school. Staying close to home he then went to Northern Arizona University where he majored in Zoology and Chemistry and studied the alga Chlamydomonas monoica using a combination of genetic and molecular approaches. At the U of A he joined the lab of Kate Dixon where he investigates the role of BRCA1 in the DNA damage response. He is interested in finding out if and how BRCA1 controls the degradation of 5’ strand of DNA and directs the damage response to error-free repair processes such as homologous recombination. Outside of the lab he enjoys fly fishing, hiking, surfing, and participates in adventure racing whenever he can find the time.

Favorites things about Tucson: I like the people in Tucson, and I also like the cost of living for graduate students. The BMCB program is by far the best program at the U of A, and in particular, I enjoy knowing that when I finish with this program I will be ready for anything that I choose to do with my career because of the excellent quality of education provided to me by the faculty in this department.
